Car Upholstery - Headliner 1979 Olds 88

Expert: Mark Savage - 6/8/2003

Question
I have a 1979 Olds 88 4 door sedan. The headliner fell down and would like to known how hard it is to replace it myself.I have striped the interior  out and have the board that the head liner was glued to in my basement. The right front corner is broken into two pieces. That is where the sun visor goes through. My goal is to restore the car back to orginal shape, and learn as well.
Thanks for your time, Doug.

Answer
Using a wire brush, clean the board. Use duct tape (2 or 3 layers) on the back side of the board to patch board. Starting in the center, apply a light coat of contact cement to the board and the cloth. Allow to tack. With the palm of your hand, press firmly and evenly, working toward the outside. tuck about 2" over the back. Cut oem holes. Reinstall. Hope this helps. Mark.
