Question
Hello,

This question is with regards to my husband's career. He has been in the IT industry for the last 17+ years but has  been given the boot at least 5 times, for reasons that include ecnomic downsizing to just plain bad performance. He has problems communicating and often seems to rub people the wrong way. At his present job, he has been ticked off again for not performing as well as a senior person should do. I have been after him to see a career coach to iron out the kinks. We live in the Boston area - do you have suggestions or advice on how he can get out of this rut?
Thanks,
Anamika

Answer
Dear Anamika,

You're are on the right track in terms of encouraging your husband to see a career coach.  I think, based on what you shared, he could also really use life coaching as well.  He may not be as aware as he should be of how he comes across.

As I'm sure you know, he will have to make the decision for himself to get help.  As much as you want help for him, he will have to want it in order for real change to take place.

Hopefully, he will start to reflect on his life and realize that he has to make a change in order for his situation to change.

Sincerely,

Cheryl
