Career Planning/Career Path

Question
I have chosen to study sociology and business (major/minor respectively) in college and am at a loss as to the appropriate way to use my education. I have experience in marketing sales and travel sales, but these jobs required little education. I am soon to graduate and am looking to combine experience with my degree to really vault myself into something I enjoy and can actually earn a comfortable living. I guess my question is, do you know anyone that has similar educational background (sociology)that has gone on to use their education? If yes, any ideas as far as fields, expected pay, specifics etc.? I am at a roadblock. Thanks

Answer
Mike,

As a coach, I rely heavily on my peers but also on the Internet to provide valuable information on career fields and/or industries that I have never coached in before OR know fairly little about.  Based on an initial search, I came up with the following hits that may be of help to you.  Just keep in mind that given that major/minor combination, the opportunities are endless and there is no "secure" path in ANYTHING anymore.  I think you should start with what you have enjoyed doing in the past whether it was work related or not and attempt to find a combination in those activities and match that with a viable career path.
