Career Planning/career - retraining and choosing a course

Question
I have recently applied for retraining.  I applied to teacher's college for my B.ed. and I have applied to college for the Mechanical Engineering Technician program.  The great news is that I have been accepted to both, the problem is I don't know which one to move forward with.  I believe I would enjoy both careers, but I am also concerned about job placement upon graduation.  This is a career change for me, I have a family to support, so I don't want to be left jobless after graduating.  Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Answer
Heather,

Both career paths are ones of growth according to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics.  I understand that you don't want to make a "mistake" in choosing one over the other, but whether there is jobs in a specific field of not, is only half of your issue.  Just because a specific career field has lots of potential job growth in the future, it may not be a good fit for you in highlighting your strengths and natural abilities.

I would suggest you to have the school that you are planning to attend allow you to take a career assessment test to determine which of the two career paths best fits your natural abilities and skills.

I hope this helps!
