Question
My Daughter has been acting since she was five. She is now twelve and would like to get into more proffesional things, like commercials or being and extra in different things. She wants to eventually move up to larger things, but I would like to know how I can help her get into the commercials and things. What do I need to do to give her a better chance in this industry?

Answer
Theresa,

Thanks for writing. For starters, it depends on where you live. 95% of all commercials, film and TV work is cast in Los Angeles. So, if you want her to have a serious shot at a career as an actress, move to LA.

If that's out of the question, then you should contact your local Film Commission and ask them for a list of the local casting directors in your area as well as agents in your area. Have some professional headshots done of her, send them to every agent and casting director in your area, and ask each of them for a general interview so you can meet them and they can meet your daughter.

That's how I'd start. Oh, and if there is an extras casting company in your area, register with them (it's free) so that any time someone needs extras the sex and age of your daughter, they'll call you and your daughter can get some extra work.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Phil
