Question
Hi, Im wondering how to start an acting career and how to become noticed. Im very good looking and I think Id be really good. And about moving to los angeles and stuff, what are the main things to do when you get there? thanks.

Answer
Nate,

If you wish to have an acting career, then the first thing you need is training. If you move to LA, pick up a copy of Backstage West magazine which is published every 2 weeks. In it you will find many advertisements for acting classes. Enroll in a couple and develop your talent and skills. As you meet other actors, ask them where they study and check out their classes as well.

Once you've had about a year's worth of training, it is then time to begin auditioning. Backstage West will list many, many films, TV shows, industrials, commercials, etc. that are casting actors. If you see a part that's right for you, submit your headshot and resume. Don't have a headshot? Then look in Backstage West for a photographer or ask an actor who's headshot you like who shot their's, and then contact that photographer to find out his rates.

Also, get into as many showcases as you can. A showcase is an evening of scenes that "showcase" actors at work. You can invite agents, casting directors, managers etc. to the showcases you appear in. If the agents/managers like you, they may want to represent you. And if Casting Directors like you, they may call you in to read for a part.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Phil
