Question
is it true that anyone is able to sing? if so is it necessary to to get singing lessons or should i just know the breating basics and read books on it?

Answer
Hi Meghan.  Thanks for writing.

It is not true that any can sing.  Many people are born without the natural ability to hear tone.  What is true is that anyone can LEARN to sing.  Anyone can LEARN to hear the notes and pitch.  Anyone can LEARN the proper technique for singing.

I always recommend that you take lessons in singing.  Learning the breathing basics and reading about it is a good start.  It would be fine to do that.  But pair that eventually with expert instructions from a coach/instructor/teacher.  Not only will you get some instant feedback on what you are doing but you will learn songs and technique that will assist you in building a strong foundation for years to come (especially if you want to do well at it).

Does that help you?
