Question
Doc, My name is Austin and I live in Columbus Ohio. I have been involved in theatre around Columbus since my 7th grade year and really enjoy acting as well as tech. I have a large amount of experience in both fields and have over 180 International Thespian Hours. I am looking for colleges to attend next year and have narrowed it down to Otterbein in Westerville Ohio, Webster in St. Louis, and Ohio University. I guess my question is if you have any suggestions as to where i should go and whether or not I should major in tech or acting. Thanks! (I can send you my portfolio if it would help)

Answer
Hi Austin, First you need to choose, tech or acting or general theatre. Then we can find a university, if that is what you want.  You are unlikely to get a professional job in either field, but colleges and universities hire tech people all the time.  And a general thatre major will allow you to experience everything.  I would surmise that college is a must imposed by mom and dad to prevent you from trying to become an actor.  It usually is. And it usually works. So unless your are burning to become an actor, that is out. Now, are you burning to have a career as a theatre technician? Well, let me know, best wishes, and God bless, Doc
