I'm 14 and i have a couple of questions. I've always dreamed of doing a voice over for a cartoon show for Disney Channel or some other major network. Do I need an agent to be hired or can I do it myself? I also live in Florida so is it even possible to do a voice casting down here?? One more question: Is there any jobs for voice overs available down here anyway? Please help..it would be very much appreciated.
I would suggest going through an agent - as that's generally how the larger jobs are booked. Disney and other companies rarely hire an unknown (particularly over the Internet) but rather contact an agent or casting person or service in order to ensure that those they hire are either professional (members of one of the unions) or experienced and/or capable of doing the job.
While Florida in the past has had very little in the way of voiceover work, that has changed somewhat now that voiceover work can more easily be done remotely. Many people now have both high-speed Internet access, and a home studio with a computer and software capable of producing good audio tapes.
There may also be a number of professional voice studios around Florida. You can try contacting the agencies in Florida that handle voiceover, and see what they suggest you do. You will need professional materials (a voiceover tape) to submit to them - but they may be able to suggest places in Florida where you can take voiceover training, and/or create a voiceover tape.
Try the Florida agencies below - each one mentions something about voiceover on their website, and one or two may be right for you.
