Question
Hi.
I have had self esteem and self confidence issues most of my life because I am very curvy and a little bigger than most girls. I am very busty naturally.

Therefore, "normal" clothes have never fit me.
I need at least an XL in almost everything because of my bust.

Same with my hips. I have wide hips.

however, personally I think I have a very pretty face.

Is it possible to get into the modeling industry as a plus size model? How do I start?

I live in Atlanta, GA and I am 20.

Answer
Generally, the plus size modeling industry runs around sizes 10-20, with an hourglass-type figure (rather than an apple shape) and usually has the same minimum height requirements as a "regular" fashion model.

Atlanta has several offices of well-known agencies - you may want to start with those.

Arlene Wilson Management (www.arlenewilson.com) also called Aria Talent is combining with Ford Models Atlanta.  They do have a plus-size division.  You can contact their office to see if the plus-size division is in Atlanta now, and what their criteria is for new faces.

Same thing with Click Models (www.clickmodel.com)  They also have a plus size division, and a branch in Atlanta.  You may need to contact that office to confirm that they have a plus-size division at that location, and what their criteria is for new faces for that division.

Try also Elite Model Management (Atlanta): www.elitemodel.com

You shouldn't need anything other than a couple snapshots to submit to them for consideration, or perhaps they have an open call you can attend.

Good luck to you,
~Kitty

I can answer questions from those looking to get into the fashion or commercial modeling industry. Specifically, the requirements, what is needed, how to find an agent, what they look for, how to avoid scams, the difference between what a commercial model does, and a fashion model, would travel/relocation be required, what is on a comp card and in your portfolio.

Experience

Both my acting and modeling resume/portfolio is available online on my website. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and also have available my actor's demo reel and voice-over demo online. I founded both the Florida-Models.com and Florida-Actors.com websites, which provide free modeling and acting info to the public. I have moved into directing, producing and screenwriting - and have won awards for my writing. I have worked in the industry as both a model and actress in Florida, New York City and Los Angeles until October 2007. I now reside in Europe.
