Question
Hi, my name is Marc-André (i'm a boy), i am 19 years old and i live in a little city in the province of quebec. I would like to make a move to a big canadian city to start an acting carrer and to learn english better (i am french).

I don't have any professionnal experience but i know that i have a talent and a big potential. I wonder where i should come, Toronto, Vancouvert or Montreal?

I also have so question about building a plan in order to succed. My plan is to get a job out there in order to make money, to take any acting course that i could, to find a agent (even if i dont know exacly how) and to make as many audition as possible in order to start my carrer.

So my questions would be what city would be the best and why, and also if my plan is realistic.

Thank you!

Answer
Hi there, Marc-Andre.  Thanks for writing.

You asked this question in a very clear and detailed way. In fact, I think you are one of the best planners I have ran into in this last little while :).  So good job.

As for city, you would find opportunity in any of the cities you named.  So I would take into consideration your friends and family and whether you want to be away from them or not.  Do you have someone you can live with in any of these cities?  If you live and have grown up in Quebec, it may be best for you to go to Montreal - especially since you are learning English better.  But that is totally your call.

Your plan is very realistic in my opinion.  It will take work and commitment to keep auditioning and working to get a role but you can do it if you want.  The other kind of plan would be going to university to take a degree in acting.  That might be something you may want to consider as well.

If you work and not go to school...
You do need money to live so having a job is a good idea.  I would try to get a job BEFORE you move though and not after.  You want to have money to move and to find residence.  Acting courses are essential throughout a person's career.  You can never know too much.  Always keep learning and developing your acting.  Never quit. And keep auditioning no matter how discouraged you get.  It may take some time but eventually, you will find something.

Does that help you?
