Question
Mr. Nemy,

My name is Matt Ross, and I wanted to ask about getting a film career started.  About a month ago, I left college due to the fact that I had taken all the acting classes required and did not want to waste money an frivolous gen. eds.

Could you tell me anything and everything that you know about getting an agent and beginning.  I'm not cocky at all, back I am very confident in my acting abilities (comedic and dramatic), and was told numerous times by profs. that I should move to LA and give it a try.  I can send my headshot or anything else to you as well, if it will help you give more specific advice to me.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and I look forward to any and all advice you can give.  Thanks again.

-Matt Ross

Answer
Matt,

Thanks for writing. Why don't you start by purchasing a copy of my book, GET A REEL JOB, from Amazon.com. There is a chapter for actors that talks all about finding an agent, choosing the right photographer for headshots, etc. There is so much to discuss and not enough space or time for me to write it all down here for you.

The bottom line is this. There isn't much you can do if you're not already living in Los Angeles. Move to LA BEFORE you try and get an agent or do new headshots. No one will take you seriously if you're not living in LA.

The other reality is this - college acting classes isn't going to be enough. Casting Directors in LA like to see actors continuing their study by taking classes in LA. Why? Because it means you're serious about your craft. The most important class to take when you get out here is a cold reading class. That will serve you well when it comes to do cold readings at an audition.

If after reading this material you still have questions, don't hesitate to write again.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
