Question
I am preparing to move to Chicago to pursue a career in theatre (especially musical theatre)and I am quite confused on how to get an agent. I'm asuming you can't just walk into someone's office and sign up, but I'm not sure how the whole process works. Also, what are signs to look for that the agency is a good one? Any other tips on getting started that you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Answer
Hello Molli, Why have you selected Chicago as a place to pursue theatre and musical theatre?  To learn how to get an agent, get a copy of Brian O'Neil's Acting as a Business. You are going to have to develop a strong resume of experience and training in order to interest an agent.  Write to me at kencosp@aol.com and we can discuss your situation in detail and work out a plan for getting you established as an actor.  Doc
