Question
what should her cover letter consist of? she's three, we have been practicing with my friend who is a photogapher, but im not to sure what to put in her cover letter. she hasn't modeled for anything. but takes great pictures. And she is great to work with.

Answer
It is a little more difficult to write a model/talent cover letter for children of that age, but you can follow somewhat of the same format as a regular cover letter.

If you have been referred to the agency (presumably by someone they know such as the parents of another child model, or a photographer, magazine or someone they've worked with) mention that.

If you haven't been referred, but you've heard something positive (read an article on them, saw their website, or obtained their contact info from a child modeling book they are listed in) mention that.

What stats you do have on your daughter, current sizes, hair/eye color, should be included.

All the ways to contact you also needs to be in there.

Keep it as short as possible, half the time the agent will only scan it briefly.  The important thing is the snapshot or snapshots you include - that's what will catch their eye, and what they are trained to assess.

I do know of people who have done "cutsey" things, (added more info, wrote funny bits, or included other things) but my advice is to keep it simple, short and to the point, as much as you can.

Good luck to you,
~Kitty

Expertise

I can answer questions from those looking to get into the fashion or commercial modeling industry. Specifically, the requirements, what is needed, how to find an agent, what they look for, how to avoid scams, the difference between what a commercial model does, and a fashion model, would travel/relocation be required, what is on a comp card and in your portfolio.

Experience

Both my acting and modeling resume/portfolio is available online on my website. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and also have available my actor's demo reel and voice-over demo online. I founded both the Florida-Models.com and Florida-Actors.com websites, which provide free modeling and acting info to the public. I have moved into directing, producing and screenwriting - and have won awards for my writing. I have worked in the industry as both a model and actress in Florida, New York City and Los Angeles until October 2007. I now reside in Europe.
