Careers: Acting, Performing, Directing/Question about auditioning for a drama School
Expert: Kenneth D. Plonkey - 7/11/2008
QuestionHi,
I'm a 19 years old french girl from Québec (Canada)
This year, I will audition for the 3 best drama school in the region.
I need to prepare 2 scenes; a comedy and a drama. One needs to in ''quebecer'' and the other one in ''international french''
That being said, I have two questions to ask.
Should I do a classic scene? ...from Marivaux or Molière or Shakespear... or should I avoid those like some websites are suggesting?
And who should I chose to give me the replica? Another acting student or a friend? My coach? (Is that even allowed?)
Someone who is also auditioning? Someone very good or just average? Basically, who would make me and my scene stand out the most?
I've heard stories of replicas being called back instead of the person actually auditioning... that would be a nightmare...not that I have any doubts about my talent, but still I want to be at my best!
Thanks for your help!
AnswerHi Alex, I am at a bit of a disadvantage since I have little experience with how Canadian schools hold auditions. I think it almost imperative that you do at least one classic scene from Moliere or Racine or other Neoclassic writer. You are sure that you need a scene with a replica rather than a monologue? Certainly, if you are going to be at your best, your replica needs to be a quality actor. Please do contact me again and let me know what these three schools are. Thanks, Doc
