Questionhey Laura, I'm 14 and i really want to become an actress. I'm not sure were to start i live in Casa Grande AZ which sucks because it's a real small town but i can go to place like Gilbert. So do you have any suggestions for me? and do you have to look pretty to be an actress?
AnswerHi Ariana
Glad you found this website to ask! The good news is that you're young and if you start now, you'll have plenty of time to develop your craft before you move on to bigger cities and markets! Do you have a drama club at school? Does Casa Grande have a local community theater? Can you begin to study music, voice or dance? All of these are good ways to begin to express yourself and perform in front of others. Begin to watch movies, plays, TV... and identify the types of characters/roles you want to play.
You will need to get into an acting class to find out if you really like it and if it suits you. Check the local phone book and see if you have any theaters, or "talent agencies". Give them a call and see if they have any advice for talent your age.
It is tougher in the smaller cities to find resources. But, at the very least, think about starting a drama club of your own! Find other people, friends, artists who are interested in reading plays. Just start studying and performing any way you can!
"Pretty" is such a subjective word. You do not need to concern yourself with "pretty". To be a good actress, it takes self knowledge, persistence and confidence. That's it!
Hope this helps.
