QuestionHello,
I am trying to find out how to get my daughter into the modeling/acting industry. My daughter is 3 going on 4 and is cute and full of personality. I need some advise on where to begin (do I start with print modeling.....etc) and how do I find a reputable place that will not scam me out of money. We live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Thanks for your time and advise!
AnswerHi Latasha
Glad you came by to ask this. You have some good legitimate agencies there in Philly. One I know to be good is Click. Contact them and see what they require for their children's category. Also take a look in your phone book under modeling agencies and talent agencies and contact them. Be aware that there are a few more requirements than cute and personality. The agents also often only have a need for a specific size or look. A few questions to consider:
Is your child good with strangers? She will be asked to shoot (often for an hour or so) without you on set. You will have to be behind camera and out of the shot. She will have to be happy interacting with strangers, being put in strange clothes, strange atmospheres etc...
You, as her Mom, will also be required to take her to appointments, go sees, auditions . . which will require you driving around town to appointments given to you by the agents at all hours.
If this all seems ok to you, pursue it. If not, maybe it's best to wait until she is a little older and see if she really wants to do it.
And yes, there are a LOT of scams out there. Don't be fooled. A portfolio on the web will not get your baby work. And a legitimate agency will not ask for a huge fee upfront. You will have to invest in pictures and comp cards, but it shouldn't break you! And you should be able to regain the cost within the first job or two.
Hope this helps!
Good luck to you.
oh, and yes... definitely start with print modeling. This will be a good way to see if she's good on set!
All the best,
