Question
My five year son needs to be on television , the movies, etc.  He is very smart and picks us on everything.  He is quick, witty and very funny at times.  He was born to be a star! How do I get him started?  I live in Richmond, Virginia and I do not have a lot of money.

Answer
Yvette,

Thanks for writing. Normally I would suggest that you enroll your son in acting classes, but at 5 years of age, he won't get much out of it. What you need is representation by a talent agent. I would suggest you contact the Virginia Film Commission and ask if they have a list of reputable talent agents in your area, or even in the Washington, DC area. You need to have some professional headshots taken of your son and you need to develop a resume for him. If he has not performed in anything, TV/Film/Stage, then don't worry about a resume at this point. But you DO need professional headshots taken that you will use to submit to the agencies when you have their addresses. You want an agency that handles children.

The other thing you can ask the Film Commission is for a list of Casting Directors in your area. Then see if you can get a general interview with as many casting directors as you can so they can see the look, personality and charm of your son.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Phil
