Question
what does it mean when they say "this is a non - union part"?

Answer
Hi Gwennay,

A non-union part simply means that you will not have the protection of the actors union Equity.

Therefore you give away your rights to minimum salary (overtime, negotiated rates, extra pay for additional duties), work rules (length of day, breaks, days off, safe and sanitary conditions); health, pension and 401(k) benefits; dispute resolution (including recourse to impartial and binding arbitration); just cause (penalties for improper dismissal); bonding (guaranteeing payments to the Actors if the producer becomes insolvent or defaults); and Supplemental Workers' Comp insurance, which provides additional compensation over-and-above Workers' Comp if you're injured on the job.

So basically Gwennay they call all the shots and you have to put up or shut up.You have to determine if the positives and opportunities of the role outweigh the negatives of no protection.

I wish you all the best and good luck.

Felicity

Experience

I am currently a model and have 13 years experience in both editorial and commercial modelling. During this time I worked for catalogues, TV commercials, advertising, advertorials, catwalk, editorial, front covers and showroom. I have also diversified into other areas of fashion as a stylist and fashion journalist. This has given me a greater depth of understanding into what clients are looking for at a casting.
