Answer
Hi Kajal,

Firstly, I would just like to start by saying that I know nothing about acting, so my answer will be purely model based.

I was 17 too when I first started out as a model. I think it's a good age as you are more able to make the right decisions than someone in their early teens. That being said, I would advise that you give commercial modelling a whirl since most editorial models start their career at around 13-15. FYI- commercial modelling means TV commercials, catalogue and advertising, the fluffy girl next door look, whereas editorial is high fashion press shows and fashion mags etc.

All you need is a head and full length shot. This doesn't have to be professional as the agency will be able to see if you have the right look for them. Next, compile a list of agencies either in your area or the major modelling cities (New York, Miami, LA) and send your pics to them. You must include your stats, e.g., height, bust, waist, hips, shoe size, hair and eye colour. It wouldn't hurt to give them a follow up call to see if they would accept you on their books.

Finally- a word of advise- never ever pay to join an agency or to  go on a 'model training' course. The agency should make money out of the client not you. They should also teach you all you need to know- usually involving interminable hours of practicing your walk/poses in front of a mirror :)

I wish you all the best Kajal

I am currently a model and have 13 years experience in both editorial and commercial modelling. During this time I worked for catalogues, TV commercials, advertising, advertorials, catwalk, editorial, front covers and showroom. I have also diversified into other areas of fashion as a stylist and fashion journalist. This has given me a greater depth of understanding into what clients are looking for at a casting.
