Question
I'm 13 and taking my options. what options should i take and what other steps could i do to achieve my ambition.

Answer
There are a few different ways to improve your skills as a director.  There are schools, courses, books and videos that can teach you the various aspects of different types of directing.

Of course being on set or on stage either directing yourself, or working as an assistant director can give you both knowledge/experience as well as a good resume.

Something that not all directors do, but that can be very helpful is to also learn about screenwriting or play writing and acting, as well as the technical aspects of the medium you plan to work in.  If it's film, then you should know something about cinematography, lighting, etc.  If it's stage, then things like choreography, music, etc. might be more important.

To be really well informed on the type of directing you're interested in, you may also want to consider studying the history of that medium, staying current with the trends in trade papers, and even studying business - as quite often producers and directors work closely together, and the budget of a project is very important.

So generally speaking, it would be a good idea to study or learn about the whole process of filmmaking, television or stage, depending on what medium you plan to go into.  You can do that by practicing on your own/gaining experience, reading books, trade papers, watching videos, taking classes or courses, or attending schools or college for directing.

Good luck to you,

Expertise

I can answer questions from those looking to get into the fashion or commercial modeling industry. Specifically, the requirements, what is needed, how to find an agent, what they look for, how to avoid scams, the difference between what a commercial model does, and a fashion model, would travel/relocation be required, what is on a comp card and in your portfolio.

Experience

Both my acting and modeling resume/portfolio is available online on my website. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and also have available my actor's demo reel and voice-over demo online. I founded both the Florida-Models.com and Florida-Actors.com websites, which provide free modeling and acting info to the public. I have moved into directing, producing and screenwriting - and have won awards for my writing. I have worked in the industry as both a model and actress in Florida, New York City and Los Angeles until October 2007. I now reside in Europe.
