Question
hi phil, thanks for the great info i think im going to just send my headshots and resume off to sag franchised agents in chicago and get my sag card that way because i know how crucial it is to have it before going to la..my question is actually two things how far will a great headshot take you in getting a good agent in Los Angeles.. and 2. after you have representation in LA, how beneficial is it to have a good manager as well to help further your career?.thanks phil for the great advice and i look forward to hearing from you

Answer
Jared,

It's not that a great headshot will take you far towards getting an agent, it's more like a bad headshot will really hurt you. It's expected of you, as an actor, to have a good headshot. Be know that once an agent is ready to sign you, he/she is going to want you take new headshots anyway. So spend money to have good headshots, but know you''ll have to spend more once you have an agent.

Regarding your other question, you don't need a manager if you already have an agent. Some actors have both as they feel their agents don't do a lot for developing their careers, something a manager is more apt to do and more interested in doing.
