Question
I am a former LA cop (15 years-retired early I'm 40something)and would like to start acting. I live in the LA area so classes, coaches and photographers (for head shots) are everywhere but so are the scammers. How do I navigate that and find reputable people.  I have the discipline and NOW the time to learn and study but the amount of information--good and bad is a bit overwhelming. I am interested in both theatrical and commercial. I have no illusions about becoming rich and famous. But I believe I can be a good actor and certainly not having to go to a 9-5 should be a bit of an advantage. Yes?
Thanks in advance for your time.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Andre, I thought I had answered this, but sometimes the wrong key gets pushed on the computer, so I am sorry for any delay. You have an enviable situation. The first thing to do is to get involved with a community theatre or other theatre group where you can audition for the plays. This will give you some idea if you have ability by the kinds of roles you get.  I don't see any sense in putting out a lot of money for acting classes, photos, etc, until you have a resume that indicates that you have talent. If you write me at kencosp@aol.com, I will send you my ebook on preparing for an acting career. Best wishes, Doc
