Question
First I just need to tell you that you sooo GORGEOUS!..
Ok,I've been a model for about ten years but was never serious about it until recently. I changed my audience and am now attempting to be serious about modeling. My problem tho is that I don't model near home (where I do my taxes) and need to find a preparer that really knows the business... What questions should I be asking to know if they really qualify??

Answer
When I looked for my tax preparer in Los Angeles, the question I asked was had they experience with other creative talent.

You want someone who is both familiar with the latest deductions available to creative talent/models as well as the latest tax info in your area where you file.

If they have worked with creative people before, you should be okay.  If not, look for a tax preparer who is willing to look up the latest in model/talent deductions.  As I'm sure you know, the tax laws change every year, so someone who is knowledgeable or willing to look up the latest in tax laws and deductions for creative people would be ideal.

Also, you can do your own research on irs.gov or telephone them yourself (their number is on their website).  I have found them to be most helpful by telephone if I had specific questions, and even general information is on their website.

Most important is that the preparer is familiar with the current year's laws, rules and regulations.  What might have been a deduction last year, may have changed this year - and not just for creative talent.  There's a rumor that each year's tax laws are longer and more comprehensive than the bible, and I am not sure I disbelieve that.

But a tax preparer who is interested in and/or willing to do a bit of research should be able to help you.

Good luck to you,
~Kitty

I can answer questions from those looking to get into the fashion or commercial modeling industry. Specifically, the requirements, what is needed, how to find an agent, what they look for, how to avoid scams, the difference between what a commercial model does, and a fashion model, would travel/relocation be required, what is on a comp card and in your portfolio.

Experience

Both my acting and modeling resume/portfolio is available online on my website. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and also have available my actor's demo reel and voice-over demo online. I founded both the Florida-Models.com and Florida-Actors.com websites, which provide free modeling and acting info to the public. I have moved into directing, producing and screenwriting - and have won awards for my writing. I have worked in the industry as both a model and actress in Florida, New York City and Los Angeles until October 2007. I now reside in Europe.
