About Kitty Kavey
Expertise
I can answer questions from those looking to get into the fashion or commercial modeling industry. Specifically, the requirements, what is needed, how to find an agent, what they look for, how to avoid scams, the difference between what a commercial model does, and a fashion model, would travel/relocation be required, what is on a comp card and in your portfolio.

Experience
Both my acting and modeling resume/portfolio is available online on my website. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and also have available my actor's demo reel and voice-over demo online. I founded both the Florida-Models.com and Florida-Actors.com websites, which provide free modeling and acting info to the public. I have moved into directing, producing and screenwriting - and have won awards for my writing. I have worked in the industry as both a model and actress in Florida, New York City and Los Angeles until October 2007. I now reside in Europe.

Question
Hi, Kitty.  This is a great site and provides such valuable information. I am a 55-year-old woman who has (fortunately) aged very well and, just having been laid off from my event manager position, thought I might research a completely different path - perhaps print modeling. I also have an extensive background in performing as a singer and actress. You've mentioned in one of your answers that one must have a current composite card for modeling. How many photos are required? I have a professional photo I use for performing. Given my line of work and my performance experience, I think I have the confident and personable parts covered. ;-)) Thanks for any information you may afford.

Answer
It depends on where you are, and what the agency you are submitting to wants from you.  Since you're a "new face" you may be able to submit your actor's headshot for consideration, and perhaps even work from that as well with your modeling agent.  I would certainly try that first, then if your agent says you need a composite card you can discuss with them exactly what would work best for you (how many shots, what type of shots will best suit your range.)

I suggest starting with the Screen Actor's Guild list of franchised agencies.  If you're not already familiar with it from your singing/acting, visit:
http://www.sag.org/content/find-agent
and look for agencies that are listed as being Full Service.  You can use your favorite search engine to find out if agencies you are interested in have a website.  Many do, and often include agency criteria and instructions for new faces on their sites.  If they don't have a website, you can call to ask.

Hopefully, you'll find a selection of agencies that would be happy to sign you, and also be able to work with your current photo.

Best of luck to you,
~Kitty
