About Kitty Kavey
Expertise
I can answer questions from those looking to get into the fashion or commercial modeling industry. Specifically, the requirements, what is needed, how to find an agent, what they look for, how to avoid scams, the difference between what a commercial model does, and a fashion model, would travel/relocation be required, what is on a comp card and in your portfolio.

Experience
Both my acting and modeling resume/portfolio is available online on my website. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and also have available my actor's demo reel and voice-over demo online. I founded both the Florida-Models.com and Florida-Actors.com websites, which provide free modeling and acting info to the public. I have moved into directing, producing and screenwriting - and have won awards for my writing. I have worked in the industry as both a model and actress in Florida, New York City and Los Angeles until October 2007. I now reside in Europe.

Question
Hello my name is Tiffany and I am 21 years old. I am wanting
to gain entrance into the acting career but I don't know where
to get started and have no experience in the field of acting
but it is something that I would love to do. is there anything
I can do to jump start my career?

Answer
There are a few things you can try.  The most direct would be to submit your information to talent agents in your area.  You can use the Screen Actors Guild franchised list of agencies to find the ones closest to you:
http://www.sag.org/content/find-agent

The agencies may want you to submit professional materials - an actor's headshot and resume - even if you have no previous experience or training to list.

You can also look in your area for actor's classes and courses in the particular type of acting you are interested in, or perhaps a basic auditioning class.

You can also visit your library or bookstore to pick up materials on the type of acting you want to do, auditioning techniques, monologues, commercial copy, etc. and practice on your own.

There are also ways to freelance, working without an agency, so that you can pick up experience.  Community theaters, independent film, student productions and local television often have opportunities for non-union newcomers.

If that's something you want to try, there are trade papers in larger markets that list auditions, or you can check with film schools and the like in your area for student productions, open theater auditions.

So you can decide which would work best for you; whether you're ready now to get an agent, would prefer to gain some experience on your own first, or would like to take an acting or auditioning class to hone your skills before you go to work either through an agent or on your own.

Good luck to you,
~Kitty
