Question
Dear Wanda,
I am a 12 year old female who just LOVES TO SING ALL THE TIME! During Music class, I would volunteer to sing infront of the class. I have been in choir and a canter for school masses. I'm just wondering how to start my acting and singing career. :D
Thank you,
Adrienne

Answer
Hi there, Adrienne...

It's really neat that you love to sing AND that you are finding ways to be involved in singing opportunities - choir, canter, singing in front of your class.  You are doing very well :).  Keep doing that, ok?  The more you do this kind of thing, the better you will become.

I think it would be helpful for you to look into voice lessons to develop your voice.  Talk with your parents about this.  If you are truly interested in doing this well, this will help you move in that direction.  It will refine your voice and give you tips on how to sing with power.   Ask your choir director for some help on where to find a coach or teacher for voice in your area.

Also, do some reading on singing for a career.  Start learning about it so that you are sure that you want to do this.  It may look like what you want to do right now.  This will help to enlighten you and to raise your awareness about what this means.

Lastly, would there be any way that you can find places to sing?  Church?  Old folks homes?  Community choirs?  Musical theatres?

Just be willing to sing and do it as often as you can.  And it will begin for you.

Does that help you?

Wanda

Be sure to talk with your parents about each step before you do any of this, ok?  You will need the support.
