What are the best, cheaper colleges in California for directing and acting?

Dear Maria, except for community colleges, I don't think there are any 'cheaper' colleges.  What sort of acting and directing were you interested in and on what level?  On the professional level there are almost no jobs for either actors or directors.  The number of applicants is many thousand times the number of jobs.  On the academic level, there are still some places hiring secondary theatre teacher/directors and quite a large number of colleges and universities have programs in theatre and acting. If you are interested in the professional world, you should make a choice of which you want to do and study that. IF you become expert in it, you can easily move to the other.
