Question
My daughter is interested in going on to learn performing arts / theatrical / models make up.  She is currently a senior in high school, attends a technical school where she is in her 3rd year of cosmetology, will be able to take her state boards upon graduation.

What type of school should we look into to further her education in make up artistry, or along these lines.

We live in Pennsylvania and have found 2 schools in our area so far.  We do realize she may be limited here in PA, looking for suggestions as to the type of schools to do a search on.

Thank you for your help!

Regards,
Charlene

Answer
Charlene,

Thanks for writing. I am unfamiliar with any schools that specialize in makeup for film and TV. My suggestion would be to contact the Makeup Artists Union in Los Angeles. Ask to speak to the Business Agent at the Union and then tell him that your daughter is interested in a career in film and TV as a makeup artist. Ask if he could make any recommendations as to where she might enroll to learn the craft, and then once she has finished the training, how she might find work and ultimately get into the Union.

Here are the specifics about the Makeup Artists Union Office:

TOMMY COLE - BUSINESS AGENT
JOHN E. JACKSON - CORRESPONDING SECRETARY
Address:   828 N. HOLLYWOOD WAY
BURBANK, CA 91505
Telephone:   818-295-3933
Fax:   818-295-3930
Email:   info@ialocal706.org
Website:   www.local706.org

Hope this helps. Good luck!
