Question
Hello, this is Greata Dreyzina. I'm interested in the entertainment business, looking to get booked. If you can help me in anyway, I'd appreciate it. My acting aspirations are TV shows, commercials and films, I am with the agency DS Entertainment.

Here is my page where you can view my resume and photos.

Answer
Hi there, Greata...Thanks for writing.

And thanks for sharing with me your resume.

I'm not sure you are going to like what I have to say but I think it is important for me to say it for your future and your safety...

So you are 15 eh?  Wow!  Lots of great opportunities and decisions to be made.  Please be careful with them.  It is a good thing that you want to act and such.  But would you say it is wise or naive to put school as a second priority to acting at your age?

It's good that you have an agent.  Have you asked them what they are doing about looking for roles for you?  If you have an agent, that is their job.

How much are you personally getting out there and auditioning for film and tv?  How many are you signing up for and going to?  Are you learning from those auditions and continuing them even if you don't get roles?  The best way for an actor to get roles is to look for them and apply for them through auditioning. If your agent is not giving you anything, look and book yourself.

Did you think writing me would result in a booking?  I wish it was that easy.  Are you aware of how the process of working in film, tv and theatre works?  An agent has a group of actors that they represent and know.  When they come across an opportunity that works for an actor they are representing, they call the actor up who they are thinking of.  The key is that they have to know what an actor can do before they match the actor with the job.  IT IS THEN THE ACTORS JOB THEN TO GO OUT AND APPLY BY AUDITIONING.  No producer or director will slot you in unless they have seen what you can do at some point.

So just like any other director or producer, I cannot simply book you because you want me to.  I would need to see your work.  But beyond that, I would need to see that your
parents are ok with what you are doing and that your school work is not suffering.  I would need to have a project that you fit with and I would need to be convinced by your audition that you are right for the role.

So, I guess what I
am saying is that I understand your desire to be booked.  That is good.  But before that can happen, you need to:
1.  Ask your agent for auditions and opportunities.
2.  Find some online and in newspapers yourself and apply for them by signing up and then getting out there and auditioning.
3.  Fill some roles and gain experience (so that your resume is 1-2 pages in length).
4.  Beyond getting out there for auditions is developing your skill and your character so that you can be the best that you were made to be.  So take classes and workshops in acting for theatre and film (in school - be a part of the drama or film club).  Take classes on leadership and personal development.  Find classes on building strong relationships and finances.  Basically, develop yourself so that you can be the best you can be.  Because being an actor is hard work.  It is very rewarding, but it is hard.  You will need to have lots of character and lots of courage to do it.

I'm sorry that I cannot be any more help.  But it is very clear to me that you need to get more experience as well as to develop your abilities and who you are educationally as well as personally before you can develop a career.

Does that help?

Wanda
