Question
Hello
My name is Ruth Lister i am 12 and i wish to dance, model, act, i am a spectacular dancer, in my opinion i have a great body i weigh only 94lb. the thing is i live in the middle of no were (but in a nice, big house) and there is barely any good dancing or modeling or acting things i could do. i really want to do something great with my life and do not want to waste it! could you give me some advice on getting somewhere?

Answer
For now, until you can find either someone to help you commute to a larger area - or in a few years when you get your driver's license - you can use this time to study and train.

Perhaps at the edge of nowhere you can find dance or acting classes - or you can visit your local library, bookstore or online bookstore to find a variety of books written about all types of acting, modeling and dance.

You could start an actor's group that meets at your house.  If it was open to all ages, there may be people in your general area who could come to you, instead of you trying to figure out a way to get to a larger area.

If your school doesn't have a drama department, you can try putting together a group there who are interested in performance.  You can do skits, standup, singing, dance, theater and other types of performance at various venues (that all can be put on your resume) such as school, malls, veteran's and old person's homes, community theaters, small bars/restaurants and cafes, and so forth.

Until you are able to move to or travel to an area that does provide what you need as far as work opportunities, you can use your own talents to create opportunities to perform and study where you are now, even in the middle of nowhere.

Hopefully there's also someone where you are with a camera who can photograph or video what you accomplish for your future actor's reel, model portfolio, or dance sample video.

Good luck to you,
~Kitty

I can answer questions from those looking to get into the fashion or commercial modeling industry. Specifically, the requirements, what is needed, how to find an agent, what they look for, how to avoid scams, the difference between what a commercial model does, and a fashion model, would travel/relocation be required, what is on a comp card and in your portfolio.

Experience

Both my acting and modeling resume/portfolio is available online on my website. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and also have available my actor's demo reel and voice-over demo online. I founded both the Florida-Models.com and Florida-Actors.com websites, which provide free modeling and acting info to the public. I have moved into directing, producing and screenwriting - and have won awards for my writing. I have worked in the industry as both a model and actress in Florida, New York City and Los Angeles until October 2007. I now reside in Europe.
