Question
Hi Phil,

Just a quick question about voice-overs.  I never had a job as a voice over artist but I know I have a natural ability to do various voices and imitations.  I would consider myself having more of a cartoon ability rather than a sofisticated voice.

I know you are more LA-centric but I figure you would still have some insight to voice-over casting companies in NY as well.  I do not want to fall in the trap of randomly picking an agent or casting agent that preys upon people by having to invest in their company; either by upfront money or mandatory classes.  Dont get me wrong, I am all for learning to enhance my voice through training but on my terms.  I would appreciate your help.  I may have a few follow-up questions once I know you would be interested in my initial question.

Thanks

Anthony

Answer
Anthony,

Thanks for writing. You're correct - because I am LA based, and my experience and knowledge is primarily about working in Los Angeles, I unfortunately do not know of any casting directors or agents for voice-over work in NYC. I do know that all the major agencies (CAA, ICM, WMA, etc.) all represent voice-over actors and they have offices in both LA and NYC. Visit their websites and listen to the demo tapes of their clients. It will give you a good idea of the versatility a voice-over actor must have in order to work.

Sorry I cannot be of more help regarding NY.
