Careers: Acting, Performing, Directing/Comedic Monologue Inquiry

Hello Gai,

I am almost done with my first semester of acting class. I don't have much knowledge of most Plays as of yet. I'm still new to the world of Theatre. :) I have to pick a comedic monologue (2 mins max) from a published play to perform next month. However, my at-home personality is that of Jim Carrey, Mr. Bean, Peewee Herman, and Charlie Chaplin. I want to finally come out and show my funny side. Do you know of any comedic, situational comedy plays, and/or monologues from plays that have this sort of humor? I want to be extremely silly (Funny actions/silly walks). I also have to be talking to somebody (not the audience) and I have to have an objective.

If you can help me out, that would be awesome! Thank you so much! :)

Rachel, you need to find a comedic monologue from a play and read the entire play. Do not choose a monologue from a book of monologues or from internet or even movie monologues, unless your professor said movie monologues are okay.
I recommend plays by Christopher Durang, LAUGHING WILD, MRS SORKIN, SONYA AND MASHA. . . They A;; have the kind of humor you mentioned.
You might find the monologue from those plays on the web, but once again, you must read the entire play.

Hope that helps.

I can answer the following questions: How can I choose the right college to study Theatre Arts? How can I prepare a monologue for audition? What do I need to study to become a Theatre educator? How can I use Theatre techniques in leadership positions? How can I implement ensemble Theatre experiences for class/cast/staff development? I prefer not to answer any questions about agent recommendations.
