-----Question-----
Hi, I am 12 years old, and I am looking into becoming a model. As I am
getting
older I have some experience of beauty and how a model should be based on:
skinny, good hair, body, personality, and such. I live in California near the Bay
Area and I am trying to look for agents and how to get into modeling. I
personally doen't know hwo all this stuff works. If you could help me, that
would
be great!
-----Answer-----
You can look for agents in your area by using one of the modeling agency
directories (available in your local bookstore, library or online).  Since you're
not quite old enough for fashion modeling, you may want to look for a
commercial print agent.
In the San Francisco area you could try these model & talent agencies - make
sure that they represent people of your age for commercial print modeling,
and ask what they need to see from you for consideration. (list below)
Good luck to you,
~Kitty

Answer
The list of agents I supplied represent both models and actors, so they should be able to help you in either area.  The way to become famous/well-known is to work harder than other people do.  Be more professional, more right for the part, easy to work with, always on time and prepared.  Then if you also have the look of the moment, are extremely photogenic and always positive and enthusiastic/energetic, you've got it made.  Remember, an agent makes their living by taking a percentage of the money talent earns through them.  (usually 10-20%).  They do about 10-20% of the work to help you move forward in your career.  The other 80-90% is up to you.  Your local library or bookstore is a good place to start learning about the different types of modeling and acting, and there are classes and training for actors.  All the rest you can learn by doing it.  The agent will set you up with auditions and go-sees, then it's up to you to be what the client is looking for, and deliver what they need once you are booked for the job.

Expertise

I can answer questions from those looking to get into the fashion or commercial modeling industry. Specifically, the requirements, what is needed, how to find an agent, what they look for, how to avoid scams, the difference between what a commercial model does, and a fashion model, would travel/relocation be required, what is on a comp card and in your portfolio.

Experience

Both my acting and modeling resume/portfolio is available online on my website. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and also have available my actor's demo reel and voice-over demo online. I founded both the Florida-Models.com and Florida-Actors.com websites, which provide free modeling and acting info to the public. I have moved into directing, producing and screenwriting - and have won awards for my writing. I have worked in the industry as both a model and actress in Florida, New York City and Los Angeles until October 2007. I now reside in Europe.
