Question
I have a question about film production, not neccesarily large format but production in general. Generally what percentage of the budget is put in pre-production, production and post-production. It is very easy to forget that the budget has to be set aside for post production and spend too much on the actual filming.Thank you.

Answer
John,

Thanks for your note. Unfortunately, there is NO WAY to generalize the budget allotment. The budget reflects the script and the shooting schedule, so it truly varies from project to project based on the details in the screenplay.

And yes, you are correct that one must budget enough money in post-production to ensure the proper completion of the film and delivery of the negative for printing and distribution to the exhibitor(s).
