Question
I have been asked to do the legwork for getting financing for an independent film-- can you please tell me exactly what is involved?  Is it common for a big director/producer to ask someone who is not really in the biz to do this? The job is in Toronto and I live in the states. There are big names attached. How long does this process usually take? Are there any legal precautions I need to be aware of?

I appreciate any advice you can give me.

Your question is impossible to address in this short answer free forum.  

Mainly because dealing with your situation would really require a full consult session--I would have to ask you many questions regarding your specific situation and your answers would help provide guidance towards the direction you should be taking.

Secondly, the situation makes no sense at all, based upon the information you gave me.  So, either very pertinent information/details have been omitted from your question or something shady is occurring in your situation.

If you wish to set up a consult we can do so.
However, I am currently working on a project and will not have time slots available until the last week of October.
Or
You may try submitting your question or a different question  with much more options, where I can respond in an either or fashion.  (e.g. should I do this or should I do that, etc.)

Unfortunately, as listed in the information panel, I do not answer generalized questions.
