Careers: Acting, Performing, Directing/Post-graduate course?
Expert: Rusty Meyers - 11/1/2007
QuestionQUESTION: Hello Rusty.
I am currently in my second year at Bath Spa University, I am studying performing arts. I am wondering about what to do after my third year, I don't know if a post-graduate course is the right way to go? Do you think it is necessary in order to do well in the performing arts? Also, if I was to do one, is it a good idea to do one in America, because i would love to travel.
Thank you.
Laura.
ANSWER: Are you any good?
Do you get parts, leads?
Continue to study until you get a degree, at least.
Go out and do it, EVRYWHERE they will hire you.

QUESTION: Thank you for your response, however i am confused by your answer. I will finish my degree and yes i think i have talent to have got onto the course. So are you saying that a post-graduate course is the right way to go or is it pointless?
Thank you for your help,
Laura.
AnswerI think as much training as you can get is always best to do before, you go out and try and conquer the world.
You said that you "think" you have talent, that's great.
But do others think so too?
Really you should "know" that you talent and others are in awe.... ok that may be a bit much, but not too much off base.
Depending on what media you want to go after, Film, TV, Commercials, Theatre... is were you need to concentrate your training.
We all want to do it all, and I have, but do what you do best first to get your foot in the door.
After a while kick the door down and then start looking for other doors.
