Question
Hey Phil,
I am a senior in highschool and hope to start a career in production design. I've read another answer you wrote to Sam, who wanted to be a set designer, and realized all your suggested colleges are private... Do you know of any public colleges that stand out for this field? Also, any tips for breaking into the field would be great.

Much appreciation,
Sara

Answer
Sara,

Thanks for writing. Unfortunately, most of the better programs are at private schools. That said, you may also wish to look into UCLA - it's a state school with a good theater program. The University of Washington at Seattle also has a strong theater program, but I don't know much about their design option.

Good luck!

Phil
