Question
I WOULD LIKE INFORMATION ON TALENT AGENTS FOR SINGING CAREER. MY DAUGHTER IS 12 YEARS OLD. SHE HAS A WONDERFUL VOICE. SHE HAS BEEN IN TALENT SHOWS, A MEMBER OF THE ANDERSON COUNTY CHOIR FOR 3 YEARS AND NOW A TEACHER ASSISTANT IN THE CHOIR, AND IS CURRENTLY TAKING VOCAL LESSONS. SHE HAS A PASSION FOR SINGING AND WRITES A LOT OF HER OWN SONGS. I SUPPORT HER 100% IN GETTING HER CAREER STARTED BUT I AM NOT SURE WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST STEPS IN GETTING THIS GOING OTHER THAN WHAT WE ARE DOING... THE BEST SUGGESTION I COULD GIVE WAS AMERICAN IDOL BUT SHE DOESN'T WANT TO WAIT UNTIL SHE IS 16. TRAVELING AND SCHOOL IS NOT A PROBLEM AS WE CURRENTLY HOME SCHOOL... ANY ASSISTANCE YOU COULD GIVE ON WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST STEPS TO GET HER OUT THERE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. SHE IS PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN EVENTUALLY GETTING SOMETHING GOING WITH DISNEY BUT WE ARE KEEPING OUR OPTIONS OPEN. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP... TAMMY

Answer
Tammy,

If you want to help your daughter obtain a career as a singer/actress, then you need to permanently move to either Los Angeles or NYC. Since she is a singer, she probably has a better chance in NYC as there is more work there requiring singers than there is in LA.

She should definitely get into some acting classes and some voice classes in NYC. Her instructors may be able to refer her to an agent or two. And whenever she is appearing in something and performing, invite agents to see her work. If they like what they see, an agent may sign her. Essentially, that's how it works.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Phil
