Question
What is the best way to present an idea for a reality show, or other type of entertainment to a producer, attorney or other "green light" type without getting taken? I am interested in getting my ideas produced but fear that I will see my idea somewhere without me working on it. What to do?

Answer
Rhonda,

Thanks for writing. Your best bet is to have an established entertainment law attorney represent you and have that person submit your project to the company you are interested in. If you cannot afford to hire an attorney, or you don't have a relationship with one, then your next best bet is to register your written idea with the Writers Guild of America. For $20, you can register you property proving that as of the day you registered it, it was your idea. Registrations are good for 5 years and cost $20. Registrations can be renewed in increments of 5 years.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Phil
