Question
Hello I would like to know how I can pursue a career as talent/model agent. I am also attending college and to obtain degree in Business. Are their some steps that I can take to prepare myself for this type of industry.

Answer
While taking business/management/PR courses can be helpful - the best way (in my opinion) to learn about the industry is by working in it.  Many agencies hire both paid and unpaid interns (some offer college credits as well).
An agency is also more likely to hire and promote those who they know from within the company, and there are numerous agents who have worked their way up (starting from the mailroom, as receptionists, etc.), and gone on to to full agents, or left and opened their own agency.
As I'm sure you know, the industry is all about relationships.  It can be easier to cultivate the relationships and trust you'll need, while developing your skills (and your Rolodex), when you are actively working in the industry - even as an intern or receptionist.
Part of what makes a good agent, is your ability to plan out your client's career, and effectively accomplish that plan by obtaining opportunities, alliances, auditions, campaigns, appearances, etc.  It's not entirely dissimilar with what a manager or publicist does, and you will have to work with them as well - so for right now, some study in those areas too could be of benefit also.
Good luck to you,

I can answer questions from those looking to get into the fashion or commercial modeling industry. Specifically, the requirements, what is needed, how to find an agent, what they look for, how to avoid scams, the difference between what a commercial model does, and a fashion model, would travel/relocation be required, what is on a comp card and in your portfolio.

Experience

Both my acting and modeling resume/portfolio is available online on my website. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and also have available my actor's demo reel and voice-over demo online. I founded both the Florida-Models.com and Florida-Actors.com websites, which provide free modeling and acting info to the public. I have moved into directing, producing and screenwriting - and have won awards for my writing. I have worked in the industry as both a model and actress in Florida, New York City and Los Angeles until October 2007. I now reside in Europe.
