Question
Hi Phil,
I teach televison production at a high school. Are there any
video's/DVD's that I could purchase to show my students how a
professional music video is directed, produced, marketed, etc ?

I would like them to see all the elements that go into
the making of a succesful one. It would be great if there is
one that features a well known music artist. That would
really help capture their attention.
Thanks so much for your help and this website!

Answer
Tom,

Thanks for writing. You've asked a very interesting question. I've not seen a DVD or video about the "making of" a music video.

A couple of suggestions however: try contacting MTV, Warner Music, Sony Music, or even the music publishers BMG and ASCAP. They may be able to lead you to a source for this kind of material.

I also have a colleague who has produced a number of music videos. His name is Carl Craig. Maybe he can lead you to something, or he may even have something himself with which he can provide you. His email address is mrcraig1@mac.com. Tell him I suggested that you contact him and see what he can do for you.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck!

Phil
