Question
What is the best advice for a total novice interested in getting into voice over work. Do they have open auditions in this field. How can I novice get into writing. Either short stories, pilots, or any challenging aspects of writing. I do not mind hard work. Obvoiusly I do not want to taken to the cleaners.

Answer
Chance,

Thanks for writing. The best way to get started in voice over work is to take some classes in voice over work. There is an art to voice-over work, and an art to developing a demo reel. You can develop your talent and prepare a demo in these classes. If you live in LA, let me know and I will recommend some classes to you. Otherwise, check your local phone book or film commission for some leads on voice-over classes.

As far as writing, I can't help you with short stories. Television pilots are developed by seasoned, experienced television show runners. Until you've been employed as a staff writer on at least 5 television shows, no one will purchase, let alone look at your ideas for new television pilots. That's the way the business works.

Hope this information helps.

Good luck!

Phil
