Question
I am doing a research paper on acting. I was wondering if you know about any websites that have information about Christian actresses. Also, could you tell me something about the working conditions of a movie actress? thank you!

Answer
Jeannie,

Sorry about not responding to you sooner. There must have been an internet or server problem as I only received your email today. So let's see what I can do to help you.

Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with any websites that have information on Christian actresses. The entertainment industry is not known for being the most spiritual or religious community around. Most people in the industry keep their spiritual beliefs to themselves as they can often be looked upon as "holy rollers," and with any kind of "stigma" associated to oneself, it can limit employment opportunities. That said, I am a Christian and I am more than happy to discuss my spiritual beliefs with anyone that asks.

The working conditions of a film actress vary depending upon the level of the actress's success. For example, if an actress is a star, like Julia Roberts for example, their working conditions are quite comfortable. She would work a 12 hour day, meaning a total of 12 hours from the time she rises in the morning to the time she arrives home at the end of the work day. She would be provided with a very comfortable star trailer on location and often next to a sound stage on a studio, which is filled with a well-stocked refrigerator with the food she likes to eat and drink, a high-end television, DVD player and VCR, a telephone with long distance service, etc., etc. She is provided with a driver who transports her exclusively to and from her home to all filming locations. She travels by airline in first class usually with enough tickets for her spouse and her entourage (makeup, hair, wardrobe, assistant, etc.). She is provided a living allowance on location from which she pays for her housing and meal expenses. This can often run as high as $4000 per week. Some stars also are provided with physical trainers, some get gym priviliges, and some are provided with their own personal chef.

If an actress is a no-name working actress, chances are she will work a longer day, often 14-16 hours. She will be given a small one-room trailer with very little perks. She will drive herself to and from work. She is given first class air transportation with usually only one additional ticket IF AND ONLY IF she is working at a distant location for 14 consecutive days or more.

As you can see, the stars get great perks and easier working conditions than your every day working actress.

Hope this helps.

Phil
