Question
I have 2 kids in the business (boy 13 and girl 10).  We have been off and on for a while, but now very serious.  Our agency always said we need good pictures and we finally did it with the professional pictures.  My kids have done acting classes.  They have just finished one with a local casting director.  How do I get my kids to get an audition with the casting directors to show them and the clients what they have learned and not waste the training?  We would like to audition in Boston but never get called.  What should we do?  My kids have small resumes being in major film as extras so they know how to behave on the set and they have each done a commercial and some print.

Answer
If the agency you are with is not sending your children out, you need a new agent.  That's their job - and they can't make money unless they get your kids work.  Since you mentioned that they took classes with a local casting director, you could contact that person and ask them who they recommend as your children are seeking new representation.  They will definitely know what agencies are sending them actors, and if they represent children.  You can also ask around to find out if there is a trade publication in your area that posts work available, such as Backstage East or West (NYC/LA) or The Blue Sheet, (FL).  In that case you can submit your children's information directly, instead of through your agent.
Good luck to you,

I can answer questions from those looking to get into the fashion or commercial modeling industry. Specifically, the requirements, what is needed, how to find an agent, what they look for, how to avoid scams, the difference between what a commercial model does, and a fashion model, would travel/relocation be required, what is on a comp card and in your portfolio.

Experience

Both my acting and modeling resume/portfolio is available online on my website. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and also have available my actor's demo reel and voice-over demo online. I founded both the Florida-Models.com and Florida-Actors.com websites, which provide free modeling and acting info to the public. I have moved into directing, producing and screenwriting - and have won awards for my writing. I have worked in the industry as both a model and actress in Florida, New York City and Los Angeles until October 2007. I now reside in Europe.
