Question
QUESTION: Hi Ms. Kavey,
I realize that acting in ga is more obscure than modeling but I've got training under my belt in both areas. Where is the best place to look for legitimate modeling and acting jobs in georgia? Thanks for your time!

ANSWER: I suggest the following agencies (below).  They are all afilliated with the Screen Actors Guild, so have more rules and regulations to comply with than non-affiliated agencies.
Good luck to you,
~Kitty

QUESTION: very helpful thank you, but i have most of those numbers already. I guess what im asking is is there any other way to obtain jobs without joining agencies? Thanks again.

Answer
Absolutely there are other ways to obtain work without being represented by an agency or manager.
Generally speaking, it's better (and safer) to work through an agency, (or even a manager) rather than freelance.  However, there are numerous websites and trade papers that are available for you to peruse and/or post your information.  There are national and global websites like OneModelPlace.com, regional sites like Florida-Models.com and trade papers such as Backstage.  There may be something local to Georgia, particularly around the Atlanta area.  Craigslist.org has several websites around Georgia, atlanta.craigslist.org being their largest.  While not an industry specific website, they do have a talent gigs section.  Publications like Backstage or modeling/acting websites, (generally speaking) tend to be used by non-professionals, for non-union or locally visible work only.  The larger (and larger-paying)employers tend to use an agency or the breakdown services to procure the talent they need, rather than just posting a text ad in a paper or a post on the Internet.  But if you choose to work freelance, Atlanta would be the place I would look to to locate any local trade papers, talent alliances or organizations that serve that area.  Besides using your favorite search engine to find region-specific info, you can also do a search on OneModelPlace.com (which also has jobs available) for local photographers and models/talent.  You can contact the talent closest to you to see who they recommend using in your area, as well as get references to photographers and other local companies who hire models and talent in that area.  Same thing with the photographers.  While a lot of the OneModelPlace.com photographers do TFP work, there are also a lot who have (paying) work available.  Contact the ones in your area, and they may also be able to point out other local resources to you as well.
Good luck to you,
~Kitty

Expertise

I can answer questions from those looking to get into the fashion or commercial modeling industry. Specifically, the requirements, what is needed, how to find an agent, what they look for, how to avoid scams, the difference between what a commercial model does, and a fashion model, would travel/relocation be required, what is on a comp card and in your portfolio.

Experience

Both my acting and modeling resume/portfolio is available online on my website. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and also have available my actor's demo reel and voice-over demo online. I founded both the Florida-Models.com and Florida-Actors.com websites, which provide free modeling and acting info to the public. I have moved into directing, producing and screenwriting - and have won awards for my writing. I have worked in the industry as both a model and actress in Florida, New York City and Los Angeles until October 2007. I now reside in Europe.
