Question
If I model TFP for a amateur make-up artist or a hair stylist should I sign a model release form?

Can a model make changes on the model release form if the model does not agree with the conditions and terms of the model release form?

How do I ask a photogapher if I could sign a model release form without offending the photograpther?

Should a  model sign a model release form even if the model is paying for the photos?

Answer
Many photographers use a standard model release form which gives them the right to hold copyright to their photos, whether you pay them or not.  You need to make sure that whatever you sign does not take away your right to use the photos in the manner for which you intend to use them.

You can ask to make any changes you want to a photographer's release form, to which they will either agree, or they won't.  Most photographers would not be offended if you asked that they provide you with a release form that clearly states they hold the copyright, but you get to use the photos for self-promotion in your portfolio, on your comp card, on your website, or whatever else you can negotiate.  When your agreement is clearly spelled out on paper, it helps eliminate any potential misunderstandings that may arise.

If you're not comfortable with a photographer's release form, and they are unwilling to alter it, it might be best just to use another photographer.  If you want to buy the image copyright, it's generally an additional cost over whatever it might be without that, and also something you can negotiate.

I can answer questions from those looking to get into the fashion or commercial modeling industry. Specifically, the requirements, what is needed, how to find an agent, what they look for, how to avoid scams, the difference between what a commercial model does, and a fashion model, would travel/relocation be required, what is on a comp card and in your portfolio.

Experience

Both my acting and modeling resume/portfolio is available online on my website. I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild, and also have available my actor's demo reel and voice-over demo online. I founded both the Florida-Models.com and Florida-Actors.com websites, which provide free modeling and acting info to the public. I have moved into directing, producing and screenwriting - and have won awards for my writing. I have worked in the industry as both a model and actress in Florida, New York City and Los Angeles until October 2007. I now reside in Europe.
