Hi Kitty. I am just getting started in the modeling/ acting biz and I am not quite sure how to write an appealing resume and cover letter without any experience in the industry. Can you tell me some tips?

For modeling you do not need a resume at all.  Actors use a somewhat standard format for their resume, which you can look up on the Internet on sites such as: http://www.johnmaiophotography.com/resume_m.html

I would suggest ignoring what he says about changing the standard size of your headshot - in NYC or LA they do like only the 8x10 format.  Once you sign with an agency, they will usually tell you how to write/update your resume in accordance with their preferences.
The cover letter should be short, maybe just a paragraph about yourself - and if you are submitting to an agency that represents both models and actors you should include the info that is pertinant to both such as your stats, contact info, areas of interest, and something interesting about you.
You don't need to recap anything that is on your resume, but it would be nice if you could include a referral from someone they know (i.e. Mary Smith recommended your agency) or at least that you're aware of what they do (i.e. I understand you have a strong theatrical division).  
The simpler, the better - keep it short and to the point.  Again, examples can be found by using your favorite search engine.
