QuestionHello Mr. Plonkey. I have been wanting to act since I was 10, but I never really took it serious until about 4 years ago. And for 4 years, I have been trying to find answers, but I've gotten nothing. I've tried looking for different kinds of classes, programs, coaches....and I got nothing. It's hard because I live in Maryland and I REALLY wanted to take classes in New York....but I don't think it could be possible because everything is too expensive. I'm 15 now, and I have decided that I want to win an Oscar when I'm 17 or 18. I know you are probably thinking that I am out of my mind, but I'm serious...and I know that the only way I can do this, is if I work hard and get lessons..but I can't even find a teacher! I want to do the impossible, and I have faith that I can, however I can't do it alone. Please help me?
Thank You
AnswerHello Lashay, The reason you are getting nowhere is that for a teen to become an actor takes the full effort of at least one of their parents looking for opportunities for experience, training and agents. Your decision to win an Oscar when age 17 or 18 is completely unfounded. What can it possibly be based upon? You are hallucinating indeed. It is a completely unrealistic goal and you will only be disappointed. You will be lucky to get a one-line role in a film after only two years of hard work. And it will probably take even longer than that unless you are extraordinarily good looking. I can only help you with advice. Until you are 18, your parents have to help you, because you are unable to sign contracts due to the labor laws. If you should be able to enlist a parent in your quest to become an actor, have them contact me and I will advise them how to proceed. Best wishes, Doc
