If you're interested in becoming an actor, there are several steps I would suggest.  First, figure out what type of acting you're interested in doing.  Then you can seek out the agencies closest to you who represent that type of actor.  You can also take classes in the acting techniques you feel would be most helpful in becoming the type of actor you want to be.  I would also suggest taking at least an auditioning class, just so you are familiar with some of the lingo, and comfortable at castings/auditions.  Many agencies will require you to audition for them, so you should ask before you meet with an agent if you'll be doing a cold reading, or should have a monologue prepared.  There are talent agencies directories available in your local library, bookstore or online, such as the Ross Reports (www.rossreports.com), or the Screen Actors Guild list of franchised agencies (www.SAG.org, under Resources, Agent Information).  You will also need to put together a actor's resume and professional headshot, unless you are interested in background/extra work.  Your agent can assist you with choosing the right image and developing your resume.
